Dale W. Hutchings, advertising, marketing and public relations expert, shared with the Business Connections & Education Workshop on Feb.9 and really got the group thinking about branding. A simple definition of branding is building a "personality" for your business.
Dale said successful branding can be achieved by:
- Providing a unique product
- Or service and effectively delivering it
- Finding a niche - something the competition is not doing for the customer
- Offering irresistible incentives (BOGO)
- Solving problems as they turn up, quickly and professionally
- Providing continuity
Dale advised common mistakes made are:
- Thinking you can please everyone
- Not knowing your strengths and weaknesses
- Trying to do all the jobs, instead of outsourcing
- Lack of a dedicated marketing plan
- Not setting definite goals to build a business brand
